The in-demand celebrity makeup artist and founder of the brand-new, must-visit, expertly curated online beauty shop Reed Clarke reveals the wonder-working formulas she swears by
I use a cleanser from One Love Organics called Vitamin B Cleansing Oil & Makeup Remover in the shower followed by Goldfaden MD Doctor’s Scrub, which is the best exfoliator I have ever used. After that I use Hydrate in a Jar from McBride—it’s a light moisturizer with a delicious rose scent. I have oily skin so I use a light cream moisturizer, nothing too heavy. I follow that up with Sun Visor, an SPF from Goldfaden MD. I never leave the house without applying sunscreen. Makeup artists are like vampires—we hide from the sun because we know the damage it can do.
Overnight skin ritual:
I use Jurlique’s face wash to clean off my makeup and then use Kinara’s salicylic acid toner on a cotton pad. I alternate between SkinCeuticals Retinol Night Cream and Kinara’s Lactic Acid Serum every other night. That combo is a miracle worker—those are some hard-working products.
Who cuts/colors your hair:
If I’m lucky I get one of the incredibly talented hairdressers I work with, like Jenny Cho or Mara Roszak, to cut my hair on set. For color I go to Victoria at Andy Lecompte. I ask her to color my hair so that it looks good while it’s growing out. I can’t stand sitting in the salon so I only want to go every six months. I don’t do well sitting for hours getting my hair done—I’m too busy and I start getting really fidgety.
I’m totally wash and go. I use a little LuLu Organics Hair Oil while it’s damp to keep it smooth and glossy but that’s the extent of it!
Favorite eye look:
I am pretty low-maintenance. I use a little taupe liner (Mineral Fusion Eye Pencil in Rough) smudged along the top lashes and mascara, that’s it. I curl my lashes using the Kevyn Aucoin Lash Curler. It’s the best. And I always use a brow gel—gotta keep the brows in place.
For a red I wear a discontinued Make Up For Ever color that I have stockpiled, but for everyday I wear Butter London Lippy Tinted Balm in Abbey Rose. It’s the perfect lip-colored lipstick and it’s a total no-brainer.
Nail color of the moment:
I always use products that are 5-free: no toluene, formaldehyde, formaldehyde resin, DBP and camphor. Laqa & Co is a favorite. Right now Birthday Suit is my go-to color of the moment—it’s a perfect opaque nude.
Odin 02. I like a fragrance that you have to really lean into to smell. Anything that you can smell when a person walks by is too strong for me. Subtlety is key.
“Never without” product:
In Fiore Veloutée Multipurpose Balm. I use it for everything: as lip balm, eye cream and cuticle cream. I even use it on cuts and scrapes. I love it.
Secret to staying young and beautiful:
Excellent skin care, (fairly) regular massages and early nights. I wake up at 5am to work before I go to work, so I have to go to bed early! Running a business while also working as a full-time makeup artist and being a mom means I have my hands full!
