Summer may be nearing its end, but with the help of four hot new designer cosmetics collections, you’ll forget all about it
Accepting the beginning of fall and the end of long, laid-back summer days is not always easy. Luckily, many of our most beloved makeup brands (from Chanel and Bobbi Brown to Laura Mercier and Lancôme) have come to the rescue, easing our transitional blues with dazzling, inspired new collections to pore over—and primp with!—as the weather cools down.
Summer sunshine hasn’t set just yet, so there’s no need to say sayonara to your coral gloss or turquoise shadow—Laura Mercier’s Belle Nouveau collection is a perfectly playful way to flaunt your newly tanned skin. Inspired by her background as a fine arts painter, Mercier created a whimsical line full of soft, lightweight pastel colors reminiscent of impressionist paintings. Most notable is the cobalt blue Long Lash Mascara, Mercier’s first-ever colored mascara. Pair it with the creamy, illuminating Sheer Crème Eye Colour pastel shadows and the high-shine pink and orange Lip Glace glosses. And don’t ignore your nails: the new Lavender Cloud lacquer will have you daydreaming your way into fall.
Like Mercier, it seems Bobbi Brown is reluctant to let summer go. The vision for Brown’s limited-edition Desert Twilight collection comes from nature: the gentle light at dusk in the desert. Tawny, sun-swept nudes, pinks and plums pay homage to that distinctive dwindling glow given off by the late summer sun. Brown’s nifty Bronzer/Blush Duo is a standout—a foolproof way to achieve a warm radiance and pop of color that will give the sunset a run for its money. Other winners from the line are the Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner in Twilight Night Shimmer Ink, a deep, pearly purple, and the Desert Twilight Eye Palette, an array of eight sun-kissed shadows.
For a bit more drama, look to Lancôme’s just-launched Midnight Roses. An ode to the majestic purple rose and the brand’s new fragrance, Tresor Midnight Rose, the fall series injects luxury and glamour into the every day. Naturally, deep plums and violets take center stage, dominating L’Absolu Crème de Mat Lipcolor, which enhances the natural color and shape of the lips. The iridescent Blush Subtil Palette is top-notch for contouring to finish off a dramatic twilight look.
Chanel polish aficionados will go crazy over the brand’s new fall collection, Les Essentiels de Chanel. Three edgy lacquers—a lilac grey (Frenzy), a dark brown-black (Vertigo) and a magenta-red (Suspicious)—have just hit shelves, and the eye and lip colors are equally bold. The Stylo Yeux Waterproof Long-Lasting Eyeliner in Silver Light is an intense chrome that both brightens and highlights the eye, while the Rouge Double Intensite Ultra Wear Lip Colour in the dark plum Almandine is sure to bring out your inner vampire. Whether it’s a sun-soaked or seductress vibe you’re channeling, these four fresh collections have you covered.
